Deaf/Blind Community Support Program

We provide highly specialized support to individuals who require complex behavioral and mental health services, and who are also in need of specialized communication interventions as a result of vision loss, hearing loss or both. We can provide anywhere from 5 hours of day support per week to 24 hours per day. To be eligible for The Community Support Program the individual must have Persons with Developmental Disabilities (PDD) funding.

Family Counselling for Families Caring for Children with Disabilities
Our family counselling program supports families who have children with disabilities, parents who require support facing challenges related to their child’s disability and can be provided for parents, or for the whole family. The child must be eligible for supports through Family Supports for Children with Disabilities (FSCD) to access this service. Note that if the family does not have approved counselling hours included in their FSCD contract, the family would pay for service. The family may be able to submit for reimbursement through their benefits plans.

Gateways
The Gateways program supports families raising children with developmental disabilities who are experiencing additional barriers (mental health, multiple children with disabilities, low income and/or English as a second language) in accessing resources and services in the community. Gateways also supports with the transition of children with a developmental disability to adult services, including assisting with applications, future planning, and ensuring the child has supports in place when they turn 18. Child must be eligible for FSCD to access this service.

Community Supports for Individuals with a Dual Diagnosis
The Community Support Team (CST) supports adults (18+) with a dual diagnosis of a developmental disability and a diagnosed mental illness to live fulfilling lives in the community. Providing wrap-around, person-centered supports to clients based on their needs, goals, interests and relationships, CST specializes in supporting people with mental health challenges and complex support needs to live and thrive.

TIPS Program for Adults with Developmental Disabilities Experiencing Social, Emotional, Or Behavioural Challenges
The TIPS program supports adults (18+) with a developmental disability experiencing social, emotional and/or behavioural challenges. This is a voluntary program, with tailored strategies for each individual and their needs. The individual must have funding from PDD.

Free Counselling for PDD Funded Adults
Our counselling program provides free counselling services to adults with developmental disabilities with PDD funding. Approximate waitlist time: 1.5 years.

Calgary Scope - Triple P Program
The Triple P program is a scientifically researched, curriculum-based parenting program for families of children aged 2 – 17. This program offers tools and strategies to help parents encourage positive behaviour, build a good relationship with their child, help teach new skills and encourage development and manage misbehaviour, as well as supporting parents to take care of themselves, cope with stress and gain confidence. The child must be eligible for supports through Family Supports for Children with Disabilities (FSCD) to access this service.

About this Organization

SCOPE has supported individuals with developmental disabilities for over 30 years. Our core departments support children, youth, and families (Outreach), adults with mental health diagnoses (Community Support Team), and Seniors (Journeys). The Community Development department facilitates advocacy efforts (Disability Action Hall) and hosts the Picture This Film Festival.
