Accessible Technology & Mentorship Program for High School Students

Easter Seals is pleased to partner with Scotia Bank, through its ScotiaRISE commitment, to offer financial grants and mentorship opportunities to students in Alberta who are currently in or who will be entering high school. The grants are valued at $1000 per student. Students can apply the grant funding toward purchasing laptops, learning aids or other specialized/adaptive learning equipment, learning software, or tutoring and other costs required for school.

Camp Horizon
Easter Seals Alberta’s Camp Horizon provides individuals with disabilities and medical conditions with life-changing outdoor overnight camp experiences. Camp offers a unique opportunity for campers to build self-esteem and independence. Activities challenge their mind and body, while creating lasting friendships and life long memories.

Home Automation Program
The Accessibility Supports AccessAbilities Program is intended to provide home automation items to increase the quality of life and independence of Albertans living with disabilities. Equipment that is available under this program includes: Smart Speakers, Smart Displays, Smart Plugs, Smart Lighting, Smart Thermostats, Smart Locks, and Video Doorbells.

Disability Travel Card - For Traveling Via Rail Canada, Greyhound Canada, Coach Canada & Motor Coach Canada
Do you travel with a support worker? The Disability Travel Card makes it easier for people with disabilities to travel. The Disability Travel Card is for individuals with a permanent disability who require the assistance of a support person when travelling with VIA Rail Canada, Greyhound Canada, Coach Canada, and Motor Coach Canada.

Equipment Loan Program
Easter Seals Alberta’s Equipment Loan Program provides equipment to children, youth, adults, seniors and families with any disability. This program is intended to be a funding option for individuals who have exhausted all other funding resources for accessibility equipment. Clients must not be eligible for government-based funding (AADL), and we cannot cover the client cost-share portion of AADL funding. Eligibility for funding includes power mobility devices (scooters, power wheelchairs), lifts (vertical lifts, porch lifts, stair lifts), hospital beds, elevating seats, ceiling tracks, strollers, portable ramps, walking aids, and lift assist chairs. Please note that this is not an exhaustive list; other equipment requests may be considered.

Phyllis Davidson Easter Seals Scholarship for Students with Physical Disabilities
Phyllis Davidson Easter Seals Scholarship offers post-secondary academic scholarships to students living with physical disabilities. Created in loving memory of Phyllis Davidson, these scholarships help ease financial strain and support the recipient’s academic success. Scholarships up to $5,000 per school year are given to qualified students working towards a post-secondary program in Alberta.

Workplace Readiness Mentorship Scholarship
The Workplace Readiness Mentorship Program, funded by Sun Life, will provide one $2,000 scholarship to a student in Alberta who is entering or currently enrolled in a post-secondary institution and match them with a volunteer mentor who will provide guidance and assist them in preparing for the workplace.

Norman Denoon Memorial Scholarship
Established in memory of Norman Denoon, the Easter Seals Alberta Norman Denoon Memorial Scholarship offers post-secondary academic scholarships to students living with disabilities or medical condition that have made a significant contribution through volunteerism or advocacy. Scholarships up to $5,000 per school year are given to qualified students working towards a post-secondary program in Alberta.

Free Virtual Recreation Programs for Individuals with Disabilities
Easter Seals Alberts invites participants to join them weekly for free virtual events as they laugh, create, learn and connect. All virtual events will take place using Zoom’s audio and video-sharing platform. They will explore a new theme together through games, arts and crafts, music, and even virtual field trips every week.

Camp Fireworks
Easter Seals Alberta, in partnership with the Epilepsy Association of Calgary, presents Camp Fireworks! If you are aged 7 to 17 and living with epilepsy, join them for a fun-filled week out at Camp Fireworks!

Guardianship and Trusteeship Application Services
Our team will guide you throughout the process of completing a Guardianship & Trusteeship application for your young adult with a disability in Alberta. We review and verify applications and supporting documentation to ensure applications meet Office of the Public Guardian guidelines. The fee for application services is $350. Fee assistance is available.
