Settlement Services

Settlement services at the Centre for Newcomers help address the needs of immigrants and refugees to make a successful transition to their new home in Calgary. Offers one-on-one needs assessment & counselling, orientation to life in Canada, information and referral to community services, assistance in identifying and reaching your settlement goals, welcome events and networking opportunities, and volunteer opportunities.

Language and Literacy Classes
Offers language and literacy classes for adults.
Ages: 18+
Youth Programs
Offers a variety of support for newcomer youth including youth who are at risk of becoming involved in criminal activity, mentorship opportunities, and support for vulnerable youth.
Ages: 12-24
Career Development and Job Search Services
Offers support in reaching your employment goals, job placement assistance, job search workshops, their Job Search Centre, and Employment Insurance (EI) application support. Additionally offers the PREP-PWD program which is dedicated to enhancing the employability of individuals in Alberta with disabilities, including those with physical, cognitive, and mental health concerns.

Vulnerable Population Services
Vulnerable Population Services (VPS) offers specialized service attention to newcomers in difficult scenarios using a Case Management & Wrap Around approach. Each person is assessed in a comprehensive way & services are provided in all areas of one’s life where attention is required & requested. We will work with the client to attend to their basic needs, income, housing, work & career preparation, settlement, integration, health, mental health, risk mitigation, safety planning, sexuality, family issues, legal issues, domestic violence & more.

About this Organization

Since 1988 the Centre for Newcomers (CFN) has been a key resource for immigrants and refugees of all nationalities in Calgary. A social profit organization, CFN views the integration of newcomers as a two-way process of experience, influence and impact between newcomers and the communities that welcome them.
