Being Deaf, hard of hearing, or losing your hearing gradually can make life harder. It can affect how you see yourself and how you get along with your family, friends, and coworkers. Sometimes, it can lead to feeling frustrated, alone, and confused. Deaf and hard-of-hearing people face communication challenges and discrimination every day, which can be different from what others go through. Getting mental health support is already tough for people who can hear and speak, and it’s even harder for those who use ASL to communicate. Each year, we’ll give up to $3,000 to a person who is Deaf or hard-of-hearing. This person should be studying in a school program. The money can be used to help pay for school fees, books, and other things needed for learning.

Family focused ASL (FFASL) is exclusive to Deaf & Hear Alberta, and features common everyday language used within the family setting. FFASL provides a unique learning environment for families with Deaf members (or with severe or progressive hearing loss) and professionals who work with children who are Deaf or who have a developmental disability. The suggested minimum age of child participants is 6 years. There is no cost to join.
