Tutoring Program for Children Affected by Cancer
Kids Cancer Care matches patients and survivors in kindergarten to grade 12 with tutors, who provide in-person (in Calgary) or online one-to-one tutoring. These tutoring sessions help learners work towards specific academic goals while boosting their confidence and helping them develop general learning skills.
Ages: 5-17
Cancer Sibling Support Group - Group and One-To-One Sessions
When a child is diagnosed with cancer, it not only affects them but the whole family. Parents are understandably very busy attending appointments and providing extra care for the child who is ill. Sometimes, the healthy siblings become quiet and keep to themselves. Other times, they try to find connections in challenging ways. This program is made with siblings in mind. They will be able to learn about cancer, so the whole experience can become a bit less scary. The program also gives them a way to express their feelings and explore them with someone close to them (if they choose), as well as tools to understand what they are feeling and what to do about it.
Ages: 4-12
Derek Wandzura Memorial Scholarship presented by Enmax
If you are a survivor of childhood cancer, our scholarship fund was designed to level the playing field for you and your family. The Kids Cancer Care Derek Wandzura Memorial Scholarship, presented by Enmax, is a one-time award available to childhood cancer patients and survivors, for use in post-secondary studies. Scholarships are awarded based on the quality of application. Applicants must be a childhood cancer patient or survivor and be a resident of Southern Alberta. Diagnosis must have occurred at age 18 or younger.
Ages: 17+
PEER Therapeutic Exercise Program for Children On or Off Cancer Treatments
Our PEER exercise program is designed for kids on or off cancer treatments and their siblings. The right prescription for physical activity can help your child develop strength, endurance, coordination and flexibility. Regular exercise helps restore energy levels and improve mental and physical well-being. PEER exercise sessions offer kids the opportunity to be more socially engaged and can improve academic performance.
Ages: 3-17
Post-Secondary Preparation Sessions for Youth with Cancer
Our post-secondary preparation sessions are offered twice each year to help youth ages 15 to 18 prepare for and navigate their first year of post-secondary education. In these sessions, you will enjoy opportunities to meet with and ask questions of professors, varsity and league athletes and current post-secondary students.
Ages: 15-18
